At my heaviest, I weighed around 130 kilograms. Today, I have lost more than 47 kilograms, but the part of this story I care about most is not the shrinking.
What actually changed
I stopped looking for one dramatic answer and started building habits I could return to: walking, protein, strength training, better sleep and consistency. Not flawless consistency. The kind that survives work pressure, travel, hormones, family life and days when motivation has left the building.
I gave up alcohol, trained regularly and learned to eat in a way that supported my goals. Medical support has formed part of my personal journey too. That is my experience not a prescription for anyone else.
Strength changed the goal
Weight loss once felt like the whole point. Strength training changed that. I began to care about what my body could do: lift, walk, run, travel, recover and keep showing up. I still have loose skin. I am still a work in progress. Neither cancels the strength I have built.
The five foundations I return to
- Walking: accessible movement that adds up.
- Protein: a practical anchor for my meals.
- Strength: training for muscle, confidence and life.
- Sleep: part of the plan, not a reward.
- Consistency: returning after imperfect days.
If you are beginning, choose one foundation. Build it until it feels normal, then add the next. Your life does not have to wait until your body reaches a particular number.
