Dear Me,
10 bloody years! That’s how long it’s taken me to figure out that getting healthy isn’t about finding the perfect diet, the perfect workout or the next miracle product.
It’s been a decade of trial and error. Pivoting. Compensating. Starting over. Getting things wrong. Getting a few things right. And slowly figuring out what actually works for me. And bloody hell, have I changed.
I went from obsessing over weight loss, to understanding fat loss, to finally realising that building muscle and getting stronger matters far more than chasing a number on the scale.
I stopped crash dieting and started eating like a normal human being. Moderation. A sensible calorie deficit when needed. No more punishing myself because I ate something I enjoyed.
I swapped excessive cardio for strength training three times a week. I still exercise six days a week because I genuinely enjoy moving my body now. And yes, I’ve finally learned that one rest day isn’t laziness … it’s non-negotiable.
Stretching? Still hate it. But flexibility and mobility are now priorities because I’d quite like this body to keep working for another few decades.
I started taking sleep seriously. Drinking more water. Eating more protein and vegetables. Being more intentional about the fruit I eat. Daily pastries became an occasional treat. And chocolate? Oh, she’s not going anywhere. I’ve just gone from demolishing a whole slab to enjoying a mini. Because life without chocolate sounds absolutely miserable. And the same applies to gelato. I refuse to deprive myself. Life is too short for that.
I quit smoking a decade ago and somewhere along the way I stopped drinking alcohol. So, it’s obvious I’d rather eat my calories instead of drinking them.
I stopped wasting money on every weight-loss product that promised to change my life. The teas, the gimmicks, the latest diet-culture nonsense. Been there. Bought the bloody T-shirt and spent a shit ton of money in the process.
I don’t rely on supplements either. I focus on getting what I need from actual food.
And then there’s GLP-1
Was it helpful? Absolutely. Was it magic? Nope.
It helped me manage my appetite and make progress, but here’s what I’ve learned: Medication can be a useful tool, but it doesn’t build your habits for you, because I stopped using the jab I put the weight back on. Without sustainable lifestyle changes, maintaining the results can be incredibly difficult.
And perhaps the biggest change of all?
I stopped treating my body like a problem that needed fixing and I started treating it like something worth looking after. Not because I hated how I looked. But because I finally understood how much I had to gain by looking after my health.
It’s taken me 10 years to realize that I don’t need to do everything perfectly. I just need to keep doing the things that matter, consistently. That, one bad day isn’t the end of the world. Its life!! The name of the game is to get back to it as soon as possible,
And that, right there, is progress.
Right. That’s enough brain dumping for today.
Ten years. Countless lessons. 50 kilos gone. But the biggest transformation has happened between my ears. Mindset the ultimate gamechanger! And the biggest takeaway is that there are no quick fixes.
I’m not finished. Not even close.
And for once, I’m not in a bloody rush. But, I am ready to level up! Its game time baby.
Love,
Me. 🖤
P.S. Keep going, you badass.
